This powerful film explores the devastating impact of the uranium industry on Utah's communities and landscapes. Through personal stories, expert interviews, and compelling visuals, Demon Mineral sheds light on the often overlooked consequences of uranium mining and milling on the Navajo Nation and in the region.
In this film, you will discover the health and environmental challenges residents face to this day from the risks of radiation exposure and contamination. You will learn about the historical context of the uranium industry and its lasting effects on the land and people. This screening aims to raise awareness and spark conversation around the pressing need for accountability and sustainable practices as the US tries to revive the uranium industry.
After the film, stay for a moderated panel discussion with the filmmaker, the film co-writer and researcher, and a local expert. The panel will provide insight on how we can work together to protect Utah's environment and the well-being of its residents as Utah tries to revive the toxic uranium industry.

- A: At the event, you will find several resources on how to advocate for Utah’s Downwinders and uranium miners, millers, and transporters from the US’s nuclear testing history, including an action alert. There will also be an update on the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.
Q: Is this a family-friendly event?
- A: Yes, this is a family-friendly event and we welcome all our community members to join us. Food and beverages will be available.
Q: Where should I park?
A: There is plenty of parking surrounding the Urban Indian Center. The closest TRAX station is the Ballpark Station (head east from the station).
Q: How can I support HEAL’s work if I can’t attend the screening?
- A: We understand that it’s not always easy to attend events in person, but you can donate to HEAL’s work here as well as sign our Action Alert advocating for the expansion and extension of the current RECA Program.
